The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) require employers to make sure anyone who uses work equipment has adequate training in how to use it safely.
Many abrasive wheel injuries come from unsafe working methods and operator error, which is exactly what training aims to reduce.
This course supports practical, hands-on training; it does not replace it. There is no fixed legal refresher period, but some contractor accreditation schemes ask for retraining at set intervals, often every three years, so check the scheme you work to.

How long does the course take?
It is a short course, usually completed in under an hour, followed by a multiple-choice test.
Is abrasive wheel training a legal requirement?
Employers must make sure people using work equipment are adequately trained. For abrasive wheels, that means anyone who uses, mounts or looks after them.
How often should staff repeat it?
There is no set legal interval. Refresh training when work, equipment or people change, or when your customers’ accreditation scheme asks for it.
